This week my roommate from school came to visit!! She flew in from Berlin with a group of friends and they explored athens for the first few days. On thursday night we took off for Santorini.
You know how some places don’t look exactly the way they look in pictures? Santorini is not one of those places. Its absolutely incredible. We rented ATVs for the weekends and rode all around the island. We drove down to the port and looked at water, walked around the tiny archaeological museum, and took pictures on the black sand beach. Another amazing thing that we did was eat mexican food!! We found a restaurant called Senor Zorba’s (hilarious i know). I’ve been craving mexican recently and we all got burritos, chips with salsa and guacomole, chicken chile and margaritas. It wasn’t quite american mexican food (aka I still need a Moe’s burrito), but it was delicious.
On saturday we drove up an incredibly twisty rode to Ancient Thira - there was a ton left and its always awesome to climb over archaeological remains. After that we went to a wine museum and tasting. I felt pretty classy doing a wine tasting on Santorini.
Of course, being Greece, there were a few road bumps. We couldn’t find our hostel for like an hour and the bus to the airport wasnt exactly labeled correctly, so we missed it and had to take a cab. But those are just the sort of things I’m getting used to here. Greece! It’s not exactly the most efficient country in the world. It was even funnier to have Alexis here from Berlin, potentially one of the most efficient cities ever. The whole tension between Germany and Greece was an interesting undertone to her visit - in some situations it was just better for her not to say she was studying in Germany.
